just after some advise really

Hi all, jsut signed up

I currently drive a MKIV Golf R32,Know dont get me wrong I love that car, the V6 growl is awesome, but due to some changes in my job situation i may have to sell up :P

Now ive been looking around at possible replacements and ive always been a fan of the impreza esp the 'Classic' but also the Hawk eye model

im assuming the insurance will be roughly the same as to what im paying now,

But what sort of MPG can you get from a scooby? at the moment i currently get between 12-18 on my daily drive which well kills me on fuel get through a good 60 of V-Power a wk!!

are there any common problems things to look out for as well?

12-18

I've heard the R32's are thirsty but...

I get over 20 mg (Classic STi RA) on my daily commute through Tokyo, so I guarantee you'll do better than the R32.

As for what to look out for may depend on the age/shape you go for. In general I'd say just look out for the usual stuff you'd look for on any (modern turbo) car. Look for something with FSSH or at least lots of receipts for work/servicing done. With classics MAF sensors are weak on late models and the gearboxes aren't the strongest so make sure you check those thoroughly. Aside from that generally no major issues. Later shapes had issues with the suspension knocking, think that was the blobs but not 100% sure.

Also have a squiz at this for what to check when looking at cars;

Re: just after some advise really

Bring a good mechanic with you and get it put up on a ramp before you buy it look for all the obvious accident damage, mechanical wise going through it fast listen from knocking from engine, take it for hard fast spin check exhaust seeing if any white smoke coming out the exhaust when engine fully warmed up when going on boost if white smoke could be head gasket failure, go through all the gears listen out for crunching between gear changes
