Unauthorized payments

Ive had a few companies recently taking money unauthorised, Does anyone what the score is about companies doing this and the legislation on it?
Orange are the latest company and Revolution have done it also,
Im going to contact the police but I cant see that they will be too bothered but whats the crack,
Im sure they cant keep getting away with it, would it be a trading standards issue?
To me its straight theft so they should be charged and taken to court but it doesnt seem to be happening.

Re: Unauthorized payments

No idea Brett, though I did have a similar issue with a company taking money from my acct about 10 years ago. Spoke to my bank and the company concerned and they both stated that nothing illegal or unauthorised was going on.

Best bet might be having a word with be Citizens Advice I reckon. May well be that they are within their rights to take money, provided they are owed/entitled to it. Have you checked the contracts you signed with the companies taking the money thoroughly?

Takes the piss either way as I feel you should be informed of charges before they are taken irrespective of circumstances.

Re: Unauthorized payments

Yeah its a one off payment and they have sent me a phone,
I dont need a new phone and not one I have to pay for lol
Ive been on to the bank and they have refunded the money and will investigate,
It seems such a grey area yet millions of us are open to this type of abuse daily,
The revolution one made me laugh they denied taking funds yet my account said Revolution gateshead or what ever there location was, Some knob was booking goods thru and taking the cash from what I picked up on.

Cheeky f###kers.

At least the bank got on it. Have you complained to the companies concerned? For all the good it'll do.

Re: Unauthorized payments

you stand off better legally when it is a credit card transaction and most card providers will recover your money if it is a genuine theft from your account.
however if you pay for goods using a bank debit card your not usally covered for goods or services you have paid for but not received. I found out this after i had bought a tailgate for a car and it was never delivered
it took me 3 mnths to recover my money as i had paid with a debit card i was told by my bank that the money would be difficult to recover .
If you pay for goods with credit cards you are automatically covered by there insurance and recovery is usally easy
If you frequently use cards for transactions keep an eye on your monthly statements and any suspicious activity report immidiately a lot of people dont notice this until its too late
