UK Drivers license

Quick question about UK paper license.

Have been checking the DVLA site as I only have the old green paper license (passed in '93). Doesn't say anywhere that I am required by law to have the new photo card license but I've been told that it is required. None of my family or friends back home seem to have a clue. I rather hope I don't need it as dealing with govt agencies is never anything but a pita.

Anybody able to shed any light on this?

Hi Wayne,

I have a pink paper driving licence "not green" If you have a green licence and it is still valid then you don't need a new photo card license.

Re: UK Drivers license

I thought that law was that you needed to update to a photo licence?

Cheers Pete.

Mine is Pink and green now that I'm look at it. It's valid for a couple more years yet.

That's what I had heard too. DVLA just encourages people to do so on their site but seems to suggest it is not necessary. Govt are masters of obfuscation though, so never can be too sure.

Cheers for the offer Matt but don't really want to put anyone out with this and Iknow calling govt lines can be a real pain.

Will probably get one tbh Pete as they are just easier. My Jap license is a single card that sits in my wallet, plus my paper one is really tatty. Was just worried that I wouldn't be able to drive when I got home as it may make getting to job interviews and stuff difficult until I got it sorted.

Re: UK Drivers license

As long as your paper license is valid its fine, they are encouraging us to change them when we alter details etc,
I know a lot of older people who still have just the paper part.
