Re: If you choke a smurf..............
Thank you for your question about what color a smurfwould turn if it was deprived of oxygen. As a smurf is a fictional cartoon character, it isimpossible to know for sure, however we can make someeducated guesses using a few assumptions. First we need to understand why humans turn a blue orpurplish colour then they are deprived of oxygen.Answers.com provides a good explanation of this condition, which is called cyanosis. "Cyanosis is a physical sign causing bluishdiscoloration of the skin and mucous membranes. Cyanosis iscaused by a lack of oxygen in the blood. Cyanosis isassociated with cold temperatures, heart failure, lungdiseases, and smothering." cyanosis: Definition from Answers.com Although we cannot know exactly what makes up a smurf'sblood, if we assume that they have similar blood to a human, then the result of oxygen deprivation would also likely be abluish colour. We cannot know if this would be visiblethrough the smurf's already blue skin. I hope this information helps you with your question.Thank you for using Ask A Question.

Re: If you choke a smurf..............
indeed the explanation of cyanosis was indepth however you left out one major area
blood itself is only red dur to haemaglobin bonding to o2 when o2 is deoxygenated it is a blue purple colour or really dark red ie venous blood during strangleation the surrounding tissue use a greater amout of o2 blood which is not being replenished this means that the blueish colour humans go is not only due tho the previous explanation but also to the fact the trapped blood is becoming more deoxygenated mmmmmmm this then leads to the thought that smurfs although fictional (which is arguementative at best) have no haemaglobin in the blood. also i heard some time ago that pappa smurf as a joke used to go round painting all the baby smurfs when they sleep with some heavy duty lead gloss paint but not wanting to become a outsider he also painted himself which was fine at first but this prank in time has given way to lead poisioning and they all died, hence why the show was cancelled only smurfs that are left are only copycats using a similar product that neds and chavs use to go orange. |
