Internet connection speed?

Just measured mine, and whilst it is well short of the claimed speed from my provider it is still mighty impressive and puts me in the top 1% globally. I'm interested to see what kind of speeds I can expect when I return next year. We have an optic fiber line which we have had for 4 years now.

Heres a link to the site i used;

Re: Internet connection speed?

I'm not even going to test mine, I'm still on restricted speed by BT for downloading over 130 gb this month.

Do they do that in UK Matt for going over your quota on downloading I changed to another company was paying through the roof on bills as we have the phone and broadband wit the same company, the company we changed to gives you unlimited downloads, but buddy of mine with the company I'am with now and he was downloading like 20 dvds from btjunky and they noticed he was draining a lot of speed from the line and they just gave him a warning, think you allowed up to 3 strikes here then they notify the police for illegal downloading

BT are currently rolling out the 20mb broadband with FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet). They are also rolling out FTTP (Fibre To The Premises) in a few areas or if you wish to pay for it once you have a fibre enabled area

FTTC = 20MB
FTTP = 50MB - supposedly

Yeah, it's crap. I've been downloading legal films and music and they sent me a warning when I hit 80gb. Basically they said that if I hit 100 gb in a month my speed will be restricted as per the "fair usage policy". I'm on BT option 3, which is unlimited downloads so I read the terms and conditions and the fair usage policy and it doesn't refer to any limit of 100gb. So now I'm talking to their legal department regarding the unfair restriction of my service.
The problem is they have labelled me a very heavy user but their policies don't define a heavy user, also if they are to restrict me to 100gb then this needs to be a contractual agreement that I must be aware of at the time I signed up to their service.
It's basic contract terms and consumer protection.

Re: Internet connection speed?

Good speed Pete,
I found that by changing my internal wall sockets and cables my download speed improved. I also had the external conectors replaced by BT in January. I'm quite far aay from the exchange so I need all the help I can get.
