Nagano Trip

Spent just 3 days in Nagano last week and a fantastic time and the weather was awesome. The scenery absolutely blew me away and the people were lovely. Nagano was the venue for the 1998 Nagano olympics if you are into that sort of thing, but it is equally stunning in the summer.

Sorry for the number of pics but this is a very, very small number of the total; we took over 500 pics and numerous videos too.

Matsumoto Castle. One of Japans most treasured castles ,and the oldest original wooden castle in Japan.

Zenkouji Temple Gate.

Ninja Farm House. Yes really! Ninja used to live, work and train here back in the Edo period. Was really cool and they even had a house which had lots of secret passages and stuff you had to navigate your way through. It was really well done and felt really authentic. Took us hour to get out. They also had a shuriken training school which was fun. Care is advised though as a rogue Ninja is known to lurk still.

Ryokan (Traditional Japanese Inn).

Nanako Chan. Shiba Inu, one of my favourite breeds, being pampered by the Mrs. Nanako belonged to the hotel we were staying at.

Wasabi Farm Water Wheel.

Oldest Traditional Farmhouse in Japan. It is actually privately owned by a normal family.

Azamino. Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to in Japan.

Kamikouchi. Another stunninly beautiful area, and contains perhaps Japans most stunning scenery. Sadly the heart of Kamikouchi is closed to traffic so we didn't have time to explore it as you need to hike in. Will go back for sure. The last few photos were taken from the edge of the park from a height of 2,300 meters, and the surrounding mountains still towered above us. The very last pic is of an active volcano that is over 300 meters high. You can see the smoke coming from the cone at the top.

Shurikens- takes me back to my youth. Throwing stars were a bit of a fad when i was in school. Bloody dangerous when i think back.

WOW photos! they must have a cracking gardener at that castle, the buildings looking fasinating.

Re: Nagano Trip

Wayne... the most stunnig pics bro... who let that Ninja in???

Back in the day... if you wanted a black belt in Kyokusinkai Karate... you had to go and live in Japan with other students at Mas Oyama's karate school, as seen in 'you only live twice' as his 'slave' apprentice... My karate teacher had to do this and was very big on tradition at our dojo, so I am fascinated by the Japanese culture, though never be able to fully understand it's condradictions of controlled violence and shinto beauty

The UK is Wabi Sabi.... an island race independant and into tradition, (like Japan) but lost it's way... if the world had an enema... they would stick the tube in Bradford!
