Thinking of getting a WR1

My friend told me about this WR1 that was for sale by me, 35000 miles on the clock, 1 owner, immaculate condition 13000. Thought this was an awesome price.
Went to look at it yesterday hoping to put a deposit on it. Car looked awesome, talked to the garage owner. Could u believe some guy turned up just before me and bought it.

The owner is my friend Andrew... Dave from Rumney hill garage... wish you had mentioned this to me earlier

Was a top car... been in it many times.... unlucky buddy Brumbrum considered buying it before he went down the type 'C' road

Still plenty more interesting cars out there at the momment..

Re: Thinking of getting a WR1

immaculate condition car, though it did have a history of the usual strut problems. Andrew, forget the WR1 get a JDM STI. For 13K you could get 2004 Spec C with same mileage as the WR1 you looked at. JDM much better spec than UK,, and Spec C much better spec than normal JDM STI.
here are some differences. I think most of this is correct, but others may differ in opinion!

STI differences....... JDM STI specifications above UK STI Spec
HID headlights
IHI Twin Scroll Turbo VF37 - (VF36 on the Spec C only – roller bearing, holds power much better over the rev range than a UK spec VF unit)
Equal Length tubular Stainless steel Manifolds
Slightly larger Intercooler
Larger profile Cam Shafts
Larger Valves
Higher engineered Pistons
Stronger Con Rods
Nitrated and cross drilled Crank
8000rpm redline
STI Branded Walbro 255lph fuel pump
Quick Rack Steering
Automatic Intercooler Spray (also manual)
DEFI Style dials with sweep on start up
Titanium STI Strut Brace
Shorter 5th and 6th gear
DCCD Gearbox - adjustable centre diff
Different rear Tail light configuration (UK car has fog light intergrated into the cluster)
Crystal Clear front headlights (UK cars have large Orange Sections)
Clutch Start

Spec C standard Specs: over JDM STI
Lightweight body panels
Lightweight smaller battery
Lightweight smaller fuel tank
Lightweight glass
Lightweight larger radiator & revised cooling system
Lightweight smaller Air-Con compressor
Adjustable Redline Rev Limiter
Spec C Revs increased to Redline @ 8,000rpm
Auto/manual adjustable Centre Differential
Larger intercooler
Intercooler 12Ltr boot recessed water tank
Auto/manual intercooler water spray
Uprated pumps, fuel system & interjectors
Equal length manifold
Twin scroll ball bearing Turbo (IHI VF36)
Spec C Forged pistons & engine internals (2.0ltr EJ20 variant)
Air cooled front mounted oil cooler
Gearbox oil cooler
Spec C lightweight & strengthened suspension & geometry: Anti-roll bars, Links, Brace struts, Wishbones etc
Spec C uprated steering & gear ratio (quick rack)
Brembo braking system
Spec C front splitter
Spec C roof vent opener
Spec C all Black Recaro Alcantara trim & carpets
Lightweight carpets
Xenon Spec C de-chromed satin effect headlights
Spec C de-chromed rear lights
Power fold mirrors
No side skirts
No internal boot release (key operated only on Spec C's)
No boot carpet
No underseal
No soundproofing
70 – 90kg’s lighter than standard STI

Re: Thinking of getting a WR1

i believe this age car suffer from knocking/clunking rear suspension struts. it's very common and many people replace them with after market coilovers. what causes it and what exactly fails i'm not sure, but they can be replaced under subaru warranty.

Re: Thinking of getting a WR1

Well done mate for buying the WR1. It really has been pampered. You can be sure that the car has been looked after and always garaged. i tried buying it myself a couple of months ago but it was above my budget, i offered him a cheeky and insulting 10k for it. As for the struts, as i said it is a really common issue with this age impreza - and not something to do with this particular car. I'm pretty sure that Dave would have had it sorted anyways. However, if it does become an aggrevation i recommend AST Coilovers,,, ....you can adjust the dampers from turning knobs(12 settings) on the back seats and from under the bonnet for a softer or harder ride.

We will all have to meet up at some point in the near future so myself and my brother can admire your flag ship car.

Well done mate, it's a cracker!

Andrew

Re: Thinking of getting a WR1

Agree on the AST being fitted, did this on my sti after the 2nd set of struts failed.
