Some people might think cruising around town in a Subaru Impreza is daft due to the fuel consumption
Alot of these people driving these big 4x4's "earn" more a week than most of us get every three months. 5,10 or 15p a litre makes no difference to them.
But it hurts my pocket
Big 4x4,s are for farmers not mums taking there kids to school.

But then with all that, some can seat upto and including 7 people and that is quite impressive. Only think is, the mpg's are not good...
Personally, people will do whatever they want with them, if you can afford to buy one, then you shouldnt be worrying so much about the running costs of them..

Same for us I suppose.. Subaru's arent cheap and never will be. I know mine's left a hole in my wallet but I wouldnt change it for the world

It is a Police/Nanny state when you are told what you can and can't do, can and can't buy, can and can't say......

If you can afford it and want it then have it........ Remember they are paying for the privalage (Higher road tax, 10 miles to the gallon).

its not a case of vehicles clogging up the roads its a case of the roads not being managed properly over the last 15 years and still now. If the highways had more investment then the cities would be flowing like water My opinion

what i was refering to was that its a fad, and is all about status symbols, y do you need a huge 4x4 rather than say a bently or merc around town?

as far as comparing it to a scoob, a scoob is a road car, admitedly designed as a road going rally car, but a 4x4 is designed as an off road car, yet most in cities come no closer than a gravel carpark to ever going off road

Some off roaders do go off road, but most only see a bit of water on the roads. I guess that most of the are, look at me, look at me type things...

If you want it and can afford it I dont think you should be taxed on it, that would just be bloody stupid..

Although agree with Gareth as the Government takes so much from his from driving and puts so little back in, its unrealistic that we can carry on the same way for long without things needing to be repaired and not having the money to do it!

I personally cannot stand Hylux's, land Cruisers, Cherokees etc etc.

My reasons are many and sound. But it basically comes down to the fact only innately selfish and self absorbed people drive the things. They serve no other purpose in a town or city (here in japan at least) other than to scream that you can afford one and to allow you to bully your way around the streets. The streets here are beyond narrow (usually single lane) without pavements. and buildings built right up to the road, so that would immediately argue against the practicality of such a vehicle. Also parents can't drive their kids to school here, so yet another argument out of the window.

And don't even get me started on Humvees.
