Angry WARNING! WR Blue Sti Owners!

All,

I recently purchased a new touch up stick from my local Subaru(Main) dealer. I received a nasty blow from a stone to my bonnet scoop yesterday so I used the touch up to fill the chip, and several other chips on my bonnet and bumper.

It was getting dark last night and i didn't notice until this morning but the blue, touch up stick is actually the wrong colour, that being much darker than the paint on the car.

I went back to the dealer today for their advice. They checked the paint code against the part, and all checks out ok.

One of their employee's also has a WR blue Sti and had an old touch up stick for it in his car. We compared the two on a piece of white paper and at first; they appeared to be the same. However, after a minute, you could clearly see that the blue I was provided had dried to a much darker shade of blue (almost black).

FYI the paint code of my car is 02C, which matches the part given by Subaru. The dealer has now taken pictures of the car and the affected body panels. They are going to give me a call later today once they have spoken to Subaru UK.

It seems due to the world's financial problems of late, Subaru made the decision to have the paint mixed and produced in the UK, as the currency conversion was continually pushing up the price of the paint. Maybe this explains why the paint is the wrong colour?

Anyway, please check on an inconspicuous part of your car to ensure colour match, or you will have a join the dots pattern on your bonnet like i have now!

I will update you once I have heard back from Subaru UK.

Martyn

The problem with a touch up stick for a mica coloured car is the match will never be perfect.

Re: WARNING! WR Blue Sti Owners!

All sorted all! Subaru are paying for a re-spray on the bonnet and scoop. Result! Looks like they already knew about it to me. TH Whites in cirencester come highly recommended. Never known a stealer to be this helpful in a situation like this!?!

LOL unfortunately not. They had that back straight away, and sent it to Subaru Uk. I need a touch up still but they are yet to get me one. I am assuming Subaru have recalled them becuase I tried to obtain one from Subaru in Bristol and they didnt have any. I will let you know when my dealer calls to tell me its in and I will quizz him about it. Cant wait to have a new front end now. Going to get it machined and diamondbrited once its done with the respray (120 for the lot!!)- it should look sweet!
