Side indicators

A mate of mine runs a body shop and has offered to respray the front end of my car to get rid of a few stone chips and a couple of dents in the bonnet where some one has shut it too hard. At the same time I have asked him to smooth the side marker holes to clean up the wing(there are vents in place of the markers at the moment) so my question is do I have to keep the side indicators or can I smooth the holes from them as well giving the front wings a really clean line.

Cheers Dan

Re: Side indicators

I don't think it's a legal requirement mate but you could check with an MOT station.

Re: Side indicators

No fella the indicators on the wing he said that smoothing the reflectors was fine but not sure of the legality of removing the indicators on the wings as well I have clear lenses but think it would look better without an indicator there at allAttachment 3896 the front reflectors where changed for vents but look crap the pic is of before I will post a pic with the vents in tomorow

Re: Side indicators

I dont think you can remove them completely, I think you have to have a indicator within a set area on the side of the car for cars traveling to be able to see what ya doing from the side, If you add a indicator to the wing mirror you may get round it.

Re: Side indicators

Vehicles first used after 1/4/86 must be fitted with one side repeater indicator on each side. Instead of a separate lamp, the side repeater might be part of the front direction indicator if it includes a wraparound lens.

Wrap-around indicators are tested by standing approximately 1000mm to the side of the vehicles rear bumper with indicator on. If amber light can be seen coming through the front lens (not a reflection) this is acceptable. If it cannot be seen, repeaters are required.
