What to do when you are Bored !

Whilst literally waiting for paint to dry yesterday (decorating) I decided to have a go at a little Modification to the front grill badge. I have previously read about people re-colouring their Grill Badges and having met with FragaL at the weekend and having seen his colour coded badge I decided to do the same

So photos of the newly colour coded badge are as follows, if anyone wants any pointers then let me know

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rillBadge2.jpg

I'm rather pleased with the results, bearing in mind the original badge is black

That really does look wicked! - Hows it done? Do you paint around the stars or do the stars come off and go back on?

Nice one Nelson

Thanks guys I am well chuffed with it and it looks better in the flesh honest

ok quick run down on what I did.

1) First off I bought some fine wet and dry sand paper from Halfords

2) Bought some Gold and Wine (wasn't sure which colour to go for) coloured Hammerite smooth finish only a little tin required

3) Remove Grill (best to so you can clean it up and then remove the Badge)

4) Use a small flat headed screwdriver and gently prise the badge off the front of the grill - you will be surprised how thin it is - I was Pick the sticky stuff off the back of the badge and the grill

5) Using said wet and dry (best to wet it too) hold the badge under the tap and rub away. You will notice that the Charcoal effect paint colour soon comes off and you are left with just the silver stars, these don't come off as they are embossed.

6) Dry up the badge and now give it your first coat of paint. The Hammeraite I used didn't go on that well but a few more coats and it will look fine. I waited about 20 minutes in bewteen coats. Keep adding coats until the colour fills the background of the badge.

7) When you have give the Badge say 3 coats you should be done - if you hold it up to the light you will be quite disappointed with the result. Kinda looks patchy but don't worry cos if you hold the badge over a surface you will notice the TRUE effect.

8 ) Once Badge is dried time to apply some double sided tape to the Grill in readiness for the Badge to stick to it.

9) Stick Badge back on (make sure its round the right way) and job done !!

10) Clean up and re-fit the Grill stand back and admire your work

Oh yeah found a way to convert the side lights into indicators and get past the MOT which Buzz wisely pointed out

I have to drill holes in the bottom of the side lights or somewhere, rewire and install silver indicator bulbs but still keep the side light bulbs in and functional. Then take the vents and the standard indicators out, replace them with silver or black mesh after smoothing the inside out and presto 8)

What do you guys think, could look different and pretty good

But be honest with me
