Fitting a cat-back exhaust. Help needed

I'm just trying to fit a cat-back system to my '02 and am a bit puzzled about the joint at the front of the link pipe to the first cat. There appears to be just a thread which goes through both flanges with a nut on one side (which refuses to budge and is now rounded off. Is this a non tamper idea from Subaru and/or am I missing something obvious. I don't want to simply cut it off but there seems to be no alternative. Any thoughts appreciated.

You can download the engine part of the manual Here Just right click and SAVE AS

This has the Exhaust system in it.

Hi Pete, thanks for the reply

Yes it's the flange at the end of the first cat which comes down behind the engine which meets the second cat section. One side of the flange has a normal nut and bolt, the other has a threaded stud going though both flanges and has a nu on the forward end. It's this that won't move.

Looks like it a hacksaw job.. Make sure you have suitable replacements first though

Just looked at my HKS and the flexi joint is not there. It is a gasket joint now.

Thanks Pete. Will attack it tonight. Anyone else come across this feature when they've changed the system?
