I would say 17" / 18" - Go for a Toyo Proxies tyre set - Value for money and seriously recommened by users of this site.

Just to add that Prodrive reckoned that the best wheel size for the Classic Impreza was 16 inch, got the most out of the Impreza chassis and standard handling setup. However most owners go with 17/18's

Hi HARV and welcome to the site mate.

As for wheels on a Classic, as the other members have said 17" or 18" will fit but you will need to get the correct "offset" and tyre size so they don't scrub the inner wing.

Prodive recommended sizes are...

17" Alloy ET50-ET55 Offset with either 205/45/17 (recommended) or 215/40/17 tyres. Do not go below an ET50 offset as it can lead to unstable and nervous handling.

18" Alloys are possible, but be aware of fitting heavy alloys as they will adversely affect ride quality. Tyres fitted by Prodrive (to the P1) are 225/35/18.

Hope that helps mate.

Rich

17`s generally are the accepted best for the classic shape.

They sell em mate and do quite a bit of scooby stuff so should be able to tell ya if they come with the right stud pattern/offset for a subaru-theres nothing worse than choosing a wheel you like then finding out you cant get a fitment for your car, sometimes with larger brake calipers usually uprated you`ll find even with the right offset/stud pattern sometimes clearance can be an issue based on the wheel design.
That wont be the case on them but on certain wheel styles usually the type with an inch or two chrome rim because the spokes dont go to the edge of the wheel they curve in sooner restricting your options with caliper upgrades-just worth noting for anyone reading this.
