Lightbulb number plate bulb bracket removal

Hi can anyone advise on how to remove the number plate bulb brackets on a classic as the screw goes down over and is quite far back from the rear bumper. Its the bracket seen on the right hand side of the diagram. Thanks in advance.

to change the bulbs it is just the 2 pozi screws per cover, only took a bracket off when I had the rear bumper off.

Bulbs are easy, I've replaced them a few times.
I need to replace the metal brackets as the screw holes have rusted away and the screws are dropping out, its that bad I've had to use cable ties to keep the covers in place, however I can not get the cable ties tight enough.

Does the bumper have to come off to get access to the screws holding the bulb brackets in place? If this is the case then I may as well replace the bulbs with a LED strip.

You like winding people up.

I don't see how an LED strip pointing at a number plate is a chav mod. I can't be bothered to remove the bumper just to get to 2 extremely rusty screws that look like the heads are going to snap off.

I've read that on the US 2.5RS there is 2 grommets under the carpet in the boot that are in line with the screws, I am going to check if mine has them later.

I found the 2 grommets, located in the wheel well closest to the bumper. Sods law my LPG fuel tank is in the way,

Re: number plate bulb bracket removal

came up with a simple solution to keep the screws in place, I got a pack of slotted screws and nuts from B&Q size 4x35mm 3/16"x1 3/8". I put the nut above the bracket and this prevents the screws from dropping out.

I will eventual replace the brackets.
