weight of rear spoilers

Good Afternoon, one of my friends has bought me a replica 22b spoiler, and it seems to fit perfectly during trail fitting, the problem is it's a lot heavier than the Genuine mid level spoiler. Just wondering are the Genuine and good quality Replica STI 5 and STI 6 spoilers alot heavier than a mid level one?

I think im going to need to source some boot springs from an STI as the spoiler is so heavy the boot will not pop open.

thanks.

I think what I need is called tailgate gas struts or Torsion bars from an STI trunk. They seem very rare. I wonder how they work and if the standard ones can be modified to be able to lift the boot lid with a heavier spoiler.

Don't worry too much about what car they are for. You need to know the travel (length when closed and fully open) and the load capacity and it should be fine. I've also seen universal kits knocking around. It might be a bit of trial and error unless you have got a few mates you can steal the struts from for a trial. You'll also need the special bolts to clip the struts on to.

A client of mine, Arvin Motion Control, makes these. Not sure of it will help but might be worth a try

thanks only problem is I went to check the size of them and there is none in sight, it looks like there is 2 metal rods that go along underneath the parcel shelf to each end of the boot lid next to the hinges which move when boot moves.

Unless they are hidden somewhere, tried looking behind the carpet on the side of the boot wall near hinges and no luck.

Even the rear spoiler that is currently fitted is slightly different to my old scooby, the old one bolted on, this one has threads with rounded pins that are attached to the spoiler itself which is then held on by nuts, its a right farce trying to get a socket spanner in the hole of the boot lid.

Re: weight of rear spoilers

this is what my boot lid uses instead of gas struts that i was trying to explain above. not sure if the classic STI saloons use them.

Thats what I thought at first. But yeah kind of sprung loaded, its just 2 metal bars going across under the parcel shelf to each end of the boot lid hinges.
