Cambelt

I don't know when my cambelt was last done so thinking of getting it done so I dont have to worry about it. Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost to just get changed/fitted? Also how much would it be to buy the kit?
Is it best to get a Subaru Specialist to change it or any garage etc.?

Thanks

Re: Cambelt

Mine was about 700 which may have been a bit steep. It did include changing all the pulleys and tensioners though as well as the belt. I would go with a specialist or at least a garage that has done a Subaru belt before. Best to get it done if you don't know when it was last replaced.

Re: Cambelt

150 - 200 for the kit. I fit them myself but I don't think it's worth more than 100 max

Re: Cambelt

Where abouts are u based IMP? Roger Clark motorsport offer the kit as an online product, for 280 ish. Then have a confident mechanic fit it, should be about 120 - 150 in labour I would say.

Re: Cambelt

Going to do it with my dad, do we need any special subaru tools before we start? We have something to get the crankshaft pulley off.
Any tips? Thanks

EDIT: Is it adviced to get the cambelt kit? Saw in the service history the last cambelt change (just the belt) was in 2005, around 40k km ago...

Re: Cambelt

Personally, i'd also change the idler pulleys, tensioners, water pump whilst your at it, But that's just me, maybe a little ott. And things may get a little complicated if your know how is limited. I did these to mine when i had the belt changed. (mainly as they were knackered... ) got a private mechanic to do it at his home ( tho he was ex-subaru) came in at about 450, but he did originally quote 150 for the cam belt, that was just for the labour.

Hello mate. I'm in Hailsham too. There is a well known mobile mechanic, that specialises in Imprezas in the area (polegate I think). My Dad knows him so I'll ask and let you know. He's used by a lot of the guys on Sussexscoobies.

Re: Cambelt

Found a website (Import Car Parts - Japanese car parts for Subaru, Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Mitsubishi and more). Phoned them up and they quoted me 260 for the cambelt kit plus waterpump, thought it sounded about right?

Went to local place (Ajays) and they wanted 60 for the waterpump alone and 60 for just the belt (didnt do kit for 1992).
