How to change the Fuel Filter

Level of Difficulty
*
Tools Needed:
Philips Screwdriver
Flexi Joint for screwdriver
10mm spanner
Rachet and a 10mm socket
Rag

Locate the fuel pump its on the right handside when you open the boot, take the 4 screws out the flexi joint for screwdriver will come in handy, then disconnect the fuel pump Pic 1,2. Run the engine till the car dies disconnect the negative lead off the battery. Then unsrew the 2x10mm bolts that hold the wiper washer tank and just rest it out of the way. Unsrew the 2 hose clips for the inlet hose and outlet hose of the filter Keep a note which hose goes where on the filter. Best starting to remove the hoses first before you take filter off, and best starting with the outlet hose give it a twist and pull it off while holding the filter as the bracket not very secure have some rags as some petrol will spill, then the inlet hose do the same again might be a bit harder as dont have much to move around with Pics 3,4,5,6. Once last hose off just open the clip that secures the filter and take the rubber off the old filter and put it on the new filter Pic 7 put back on the bracket and secure the filter if the hose clips need changing due to rust or whatever be a good time now to change them, then put the 2 hoses back on and secure the 2 hose clips, put the wiper washer tank back on and secure the earth cable where shown in Pic 8,9 plug the fuel pump connector back in and secure the plate and re-connect the negative lead off the battery, before you start it turn the key to the ignition ON position for few seconds do this for 2-3times as you pressurising the Fuel system back up then start car and look out for leaks and keep on eye on the filter and hoses for a couple of days after to make sure that they no leaks and job done

Re: How to change the Fuel Filter

Instead of removing the cover and fuel pump plug I pull the fuse fella, saves time,
good write up though.

Think the fuel pump fuse is located in the fusebox under the bonnet on passenger side and you can open the fuel cap to let out any more pressure but you dont really need to

Thumbs up Re: How to change the Fuel Filter

Great post. I followed and it works great. Leaving the car overnight is best. No need to run engine dry. There is one point I must point out to relieve suffering. Hot Water. Pour a kettle of boiling hot water over rubber fuel pipes. This exbands the rubber and thus you can pull it away like cheese (just mind the water dont run into fuel tubes and the fuel which will spurt from the filter because of pressure produced by the intro of heated water). I was at it wasting energy forever until I remember my school science project. Ah, I am so lucky I got a secondary education

Re: How to change the Fuel Filter

I wish i'd found the tip about pouring hot water onto the rubber. Took me herculian strength (and 20 mins) to get the darn pipes off the filter this afternoon - would have been a 5 minute job otherwise.
Good guide.
