HOW TO DO AN OIL CHANGE
Level of Difficulty
* * Iam sure a lot of you guys know this but for the people that dont take a read and see how easy it is ![]() TOOLS in Pic1 10mm, 12mm,17mm socket and extension bar and rachet Oil what ever Grade your car needs Oil filter and New sump washer Oil filter tool Funnel 1)Firstly get the engine up to operating tempeture as oil drains faster when hot and cleans a lot of sludge from your engine when hot. 2)Jack up the car on Level ground and securely place axle stands underneath the car ALWAYS use axle stands to support your car and make sure they can take the weight of your car as dont trust a trolley jack to hold car 3)Remove the plastic under cover their are four 12mm bolts underneath and two 10mm bolts on either side of the inside of the wheel arches 4)You will now see the bottom of engine sump here and oil filter in pic2 you will need a 17mm socket and rachet pic3 to remove the sump bolt BE CAREFULL as oil is hot dont want to get burned take sump bolt off as fast as you can so oil dont run up your sleeve and have your tray underneath you might have to move tray to allow when the oil slows to drips to avoid getting oil on the floor retighten the sump bolt not to hard but not to soft either, using a NEW sump bolt washer this reduces the risk of using an old washer and getting small oil leaks 5)Get your removal tool for oil filter here is a good place to tighten the tool pic4 to remove the filter again watch the overflow of oil here have your tray ready 6)As in the pic below with this oil filter it hangs down from the engine block so as with a oil filter that hangs on the side of most engines you cant fill up the filter with oil so with this filter fill the oil filter with oil cause if you dont the engine runs the risk of when you first start the car it can run with no oil for them long 4-5secs so with these flat 4 engines I would recommend fill the new oil filter pic5 with oil then smear oil on the rubber seal round the filter then clean the lip where the oil filter seats shown in pic6 for a good seal then hand tighten the filter in place then 1/2 turn with your oil filter tool 7)Refit the plastic under cover then axle stand out, jack down making sure nothing was under the car 8)Fill up the engine with oil located here pic7 fill over the half mark between the L=Low and F=Full pic8 and put on the oil filler cap 9)Start the car oil light might stay on a second or two max if you filled up the oil filter as I said earlier leave it run for a fast few minutes looking for leaks under the car while engine running 10)Turn engine off then check dipstick, oil will have dropped due to oil filter taking more oil but FILL more oil up to the F=Full mark pic9 11)Close the oil filler cap and just keep an eye underneath the car for a day or two to make sure NO oil leaks and job done ![]() Engine oil capacity (Non-TURBO model): Upper level* Lower level* *4.0 Litres (4.2 US qt, 3.5 Imp qt) *3.0 Litres (3.2 US qt, 2.6 Imp qt) Engine oil capacity (TURBO model): *4.5 Litres (4.8 US qt, 4.0 Imp qt) *3.5 Litres (3.7 US qt, 3.1 Imp qt) Last edited by stiimpreza1984; 10 Apr 2010 at 04:37 PM. |
