For a head gasket failure had a guy before in garage here and had the head gasket go on him he skimmed the head and it increase's the compression ratio and it puts additional strain on the bottom end of the engine so would keep that in mind if head warped and needs skimming, you can download a manual at ''pdf free service manual downloads subaru impreza'' that will tell you everything you need to know.............................

hi ;o) got a service manual for it. got all the settings and hopefully i will be ok,think this might have been the problem in the first place with the missfiring and lask of power.could have been getting water through it. never done this before lol so its going to be fun,i will give a go though ;o)
got an engine hoist and going to take it out tomorrow, bought a full head gasket set today and going to start to pull it apart labelling as i go so i know where things go.im worried i make a complete mess of it.i got a few people who might be able to help me out if things go bad lol fingers crossed.....

Re: HELP WANTED CHANGING HEAD GASKETS

hi sti ;o)
i started on it this morning, just basically went over the car today taking all wiring.pipes and intercooler off today really, stopped early as it was bloody freezing this afternoon.so will do gear box in the morning and split that from engine and hopefully have it out tomorrow.just going to take my time with it.made sure i put labels on everything ive disconnected.the car looks like a post it note collection with tags everywhere lol ;o)
as i dais before i got no idea really at all what im doing and this is the first engine i done by myself and hopefully with all the tags i shouldnt have too much problems.the fun begins when taking the heads of i guess lol
just going to take my time as i want it to get back to its normal self.so any tips would be helpful ;o)

picture below is off the untouched engine, before i start killing it lol ;o)

Re: HELP WANTED CHANGING HEAD GASKETS

well end of day two....just managed to get the exhaust off the turbo, there was a few bolts that were pretty stubborn and it took some time, starter motor is off and the bolts for the gear box.
so really now its just waiting for the morning...as its cold now early and the hands dont work out in the open well.engine mounts off first thing and out with the engine hopefully.....
will have it in the back yard which i will lay out a big old rug.its like a hard thick brush type rug about 12ft by 7ft .should give me enough room to keep things spread out and room to work on them. so far everything thats come off has been put into plastic bags with labelled.
i know this is the hard bit now to come when i take the heads off.this is where the fun begins lol ;o)
this is day twos pic below ;o)
