Hi guys

I'm attempting to change the coolant over myself

God help me!!

Anyways, I have emtpied the system once now and then refilled it, turn the engine on, filled it up as much as I could and have now drained it again to try and clean it out a bit

Now how much anti freeze should I put in? I was going to go for 50:50 but is that too much? I know winter is coming now so I had best get it sorted

It had hardly anything in it before, protection to about +1C

Why dont garages do these things for you?!

Phil,

At least 40% of the mixture should be water.

I dont think there was 4% in the last mixture that was in there!! Jezz, how bad am I? Its been like that ever since I had it too

50/50 you will have freeze protection down to –34°F

Would that be enough Pete? I'm a noob at this!! First time ever I'm doing this and I'm doing it too my Subaru!!

Go for 50/50 mate

I dont fancy going out there with the wind at the moment, the damn bonnet nearly flew off!!

Yup 50/50 split is perfect Phil - just take your time mate and be sure to get all the air out of the system

Just keep squeezing the top rad hose and this will help to expel any air locks.

Just got to wait for the rain to stop

Is it best to run the car for a bit after you've put in like 2 litres in the system? I honestly dont know how much it will hold...

If you dont know how much it will hold, you best mix the anti freeze with the water before you put it into the system.

I've a 2 litre bottle so I've put in 1/2 litre of water and then a litre of anti freeze and then topped it up with the water

I assume that will work ok? I think its nearly 4 litres...

how about 1/2 litre of water X 1/2 litre of anti freeze at a time until it tops up mate.

I'll do that after I have filled it up with the 2 litres as then it might not take much more
