head gasket

just had my car dianosed at xtreme scoobies n they said the head gasket has gone, quoted me just under 700 for labour n gaskets or just under 1400 for extra heads reworked plus valves if needed thats all inclusive, was thinking about porting n polishing at a extra of 470 what r your views and do you think the prices r reasonable?

Porting & polishing always a grey area mate.

Yeah I agree, it helps the air flow in and exhaust gases out easier, but I've seen guys only getting between 5-15 BHP increse after spending 500-1500 on this!!!

I think there are much better ways to spend money and increase power mate...

What have you already got done??? If you are looking for better power gains for similar money, there are quite a few things you can do.

What year car have you got???

I got a Blitz on our car and it's tops. Not saying we are the cheapest price in the world on boost controllers (as we are autherised Blitz UK dealers and they regulate our price), but we offer dot org members 10% off RRP.

What about a set of GT Spec GEN II SS Exhaust Headers complete with a GT Spec Up-Pipe (these are a good seller of ours) and a re-map (depending on year of car) at XS??? 8) The headers (complete with Up-Pipe) are 425 on our site, I'd be willing to give you some dot org discount on these!!!

Ummm...

I don't think the MY98 Impreza ECU can be re-mapped...

I think it was only the MY99 onwards that can be re-mapped...

What do you want to do??? What do you want from your car??? At the end of the day if you are looking for more power and a way of adjusting boost etc, why not save ya pennies and go for a new ECU???

just got some bad news, xs also had a look at my bottom end. they said i need 1 conrod and a crank. d conrod has gone slightly oval i could change just the 1 but then the other 3 wil b old while i have 1 new one, the crank they said they could skim it but it might be weak. so wot do u guys recommend me doin? change just d 1 conrod n crank? or all 4 con rods n crank? or get the crank skimmed?

i'd reccomend replacing the rods with eagle H- section rods. best value money can buy.
replace the crank too! some people do like to regrind the cranks but by the time this is done you'd be better off replacing it.
the crank is that small in comparasum to most other engine designs that i wouldn't trust or reccomend it. Plus the new crank will have modified and enlarged oilways.

i just did a guys 22B last week for 3800. this included a nitrided STi crank, modified bearings, Eagle rods, Cometic uprated headgaskets, modified oil pump, new clutch and flywheel, all new gaskets and oil seals throughout, cambelt, oils / filters / antifreeze etc....... incl labour and VAT!!!!
