Unhappy Leaking Turbo TD05

Hi, quite a while ago I bought a TD05 16G turbo second hand which had already been converted to front entry. It has no play at all in the shaft and does not leak oil at all, what it does leak is coolant and it is sending it through the exhaust , I would like to know if there is a kit available to fix it and where I could get one from?

I did that before posting this thread, all I got was a few websites I never heard of with no information about the kits, such as manufacturer and if it included coolant seal.

I have found a place I can take the turbo and they will rebuild it, I'm going there on Monday.

I am still interested to know if there is any reputable/recommended websites that sell the kits as I've heard there is a lot of Chinese copies around.

Re: Leaking Turbo TD05

well after a 10 second ebay search there was a company who rebuild them and sell the kits, so id guess the kits are ok or they would have problems, also a quick you tube search would give you the how too . . .

lol, yes I have seen the video as it came up in the google search.

Does the oil seals double up as a coolant/water seal, as all the complete kits never mention coolant/water seals just oil?

cheers

Re: Leaking Turbo TD05

Had the turbo stripped and diagnosed, the core is cracked which is allowing the coolant through and the exhaust housing is cracked in the waste gate hole. I was quoted 595 for complete rebuild and balance.

I've been offered a reconditioned VF34 for 400, I can't decide, I only want to achieve 300bhp. What are your thoughts on the VF34 on a MY99 UK Turbo with standard internals, 3" sports cat down pipe and cat back system, Green Cotton panel filter, 3 port boost solenoid and another remap?

Re: Leaking Turbo TD05

the remap is the added cost on a classic, its certainly easy to swap like for like. . .

Just to clear things up, there is nothing wrong with the TD04 that is currently fitted and it has already been remapped to 271bhp last year. I want to make a reliable 300bhp only, which means a bigger turbo and another remap.

According to Andy Forrest's website he states "The TD05 is also capable of making good power and will generally remain reliable at a higher boost level than the IHI series." AndyForrestPerformance

I would like to know if the VF34 will be reliable when it is only producing 300bhp so that I can make a decision?

thank you

TD04 hybrid or SC32 would be about the best options

I take it the SC32 is a Scooby Clinic job, as all my searches come up with threads on scoobynet relating to Scooby Clinic, checked Scooby Clinic's website and the cheapest turbo is a SC36 at 1078 lol, my car is only worth 2k.

Looks like I'll be contacting Andy Forrest about the TD04 hybrid as I've never seen them anywhere else.

cheers.

Re: Leaking Turbo TD05

Got an email from Andy Forrest he stated he no longer makes hybrid turbos due to the high demand for remapping and very little time to manfucture.

I've decided to go with the VF34 and a remap.

thanks.
