Question MAF genuine or 3rd party?

what's the verdict on 3rd party MAF's for MY99 UK Turbos?

Got a feeling mine is on the way out, tried that silly test by unplugging it and it proved nothing, ran diagnostic and came back MAF sensor, so reset ECU and will be checking it later.

May not need one, but I'll find out the part number for future reference when I get the chance.

Had spark plugs cleaned as one was clogged up went for a blast everything seems fine, checked codes no codes at all.

Re: MAF genuine or 3rd party?

help, im really struggling to remove the MAF. I've tried undoing the jubilee clips to try and praise the airbox out as I also want to check the air filter as that doesnt seem to open far enough to get the filter out. I can not get a spanner into where the 4 bolts that hold the pipe that the MAF is slotted into is attached to the air box. The MAF is held in with torx screws but it has a little bit of metal in the centre of each torx to stop the use of standard torx.

On a further note, on the way home from work I took it up to 6000rpm and boost stayed steady at 0.8 bar but the car seemed like it was hesitating. I've had Gearbox, clutch, coil pack replaced and had spark plugs cleaned. On a cold start the engine sounds like its struggling but the revs are spot on climbing up 1500rpm and slowly drops as it warms up. I've tried checking for codes and there is nothing stored. I've heard that one of the Lambda sensor can cause this with out making the CEL come on or showing any codes. Any ideas on removing the MAF or what is causing this weird hesitation?

Re: MAF genuine or 3rd party?

its laptop and lead time, you want to look at the voltage of the maf on idle, and 02 on idle,
I`ve recently changed a 02 with no error codes showing 0.80 volts, the new one was 0.06 volts, and responds so much quicker,
like I say no error codes just changed due to age.

Looks like i need to replace the Lambda O2 sensor if I am reading that correctly.

Is my voltage correct for the MAF?

Re: MAF genuine or 3rd party?

thats only the front 02,
also turn ignition on and log with the engine NOT running, this will give a good idea of the Maf

which software do you use or recommend as ECU Explorer only reads the front O2 sensor?

I knew that, just that most people replace the air box with induction kits so just wondering how the heck they removed it, as I cant get the air box open enough to check the air filter.

Re: MAF genuine or 3rd party?

Just tried FreeSSM which according to the website I downloaded it from shows a screenshot showing the support to measure rear O2.

either my ECU does not support rear O2 sensor signals or I dont have one at all.
this is the data with just the car in the ON position. Its a MY99 UK Turbo not a new age. I've tried searching for gc8 rear o2 or rear lambda, rear oxygen sensor and can not find any where that sells them. What I did find out is the ECU uses the front one to work out the air/fuel ratio, so its probably the front, but im just guessing from what I have read on different forums.

here is a screenshot of the features available on a 2.5 outback
