Block and stroker kit options

right im going straight into the deep end not had alot to do with ej20 builds yet but im sure there are plenty of peep on here who have so here goes..

when it comes to choosing between semi and fully closed decks what are the pro's/cons of each?

i know that fully closed would be better for silly power but is it true that they dont cool as well?

what sort of power do people tend to opt for a fully closed over a semi?

With regaurds to the stroker kits, what are the pro's/cons/differences between the 2.1 and 2.35 kits??

is it just a case of the bigger the better?

any help greatly appreciated

Re: Block and stroker kit options

All depends on what power you intend on running and what use the engine will have eg road, track, hill climb etc.
Open deck will run good power without problems, 79mm crank will drop straight in on the Phase 2 ('99 onwards) open deck block.

Closed deck will require machining to convert to rear thrust for the 79mm crank and then line boring to square everything up , the bore squirters will need spot machining to lower them to clear the piston skirts at BDC especially when running Cosworth stroker pistons.
Heat management is helped with a cooler stat.

Semi closed is obviously a bit more rigid around the deck face than an open deck block, 79mm crank will drop straight in as all semi closed are rear thrust.

2.1 Stroker is an affordable route to good power with supporting mods.
2.35 stroker wil require deep pockets to fund it as its best to start with an EJ22 closed deck to bore out to 97.50mm.

hope some of this helps
