New guy, changing plugs on a 2008 2.5l

Got the plain jane impreza. Bought it new, and it now has 33,500 miles on it.

Dod the engine and cabin air filters today, and am going to do the plugs tomorrow.

It looks like I pull the engine filter box [breather box?] out for the passanger side,
and the battery out and lift the fuse box for the driver's side?

Or will the plug thingies fit past the battery?

One other question.

The parts department said they do a ~3.5 quart drain and fill every 30k.
That's it? I do a 3x3 every 30k on my Acura TL. Changing only a third of the oil every 30k seems light.
