Power steering pump!! HELP!!!

Right I have a 96 turbo impreza and I have never had a problem till now. Took off my oil res for the power steering pump to be resprayed so I un done it and all the oil come out. Fair Enuff. On putting the res back on an toping up was fine I started the car no problems after a little bit of a warm up I put some revs on hearing a whining noise!! Web u let revs off it stops an put them back on it will start again let it tic over then keep revs on it will start again after a while I thought it was internal or the turbo but when I turn the steering either way it will whine! Is that a new pump or is there a way to bleed it as u just filled it back up! Then pump speeds fine on the belt just wen u rev or turn. Can some one help?

Re: Power steering pump!! HELP!!!

I would leave it till you have done a flush with good fluid, you could do damage.

Re: Power steering pump!! HELP!!!

If its a whining noise its coming from the small tentionor pulley on the ac belt its sounds like you over tightened the belt at some point and the bearing in the small tentioner pully has cullapesd did you take both belts of?

its worth checking if you take the ac belt of and then put the power steering belt back on its own see if you still hear the whining noise if you don't hear any thing switch the engine off and spin the small tentionor pully see if it spinse freely or if its grinding and buckled up. that's probably the reason why your belt making worser noise then whining when you are turning a full lock on the steering side to side eventually the belt will just snap.

the power steering noise goes after a few minutes of topping up oil.

good luck

FROM WORKS THE REAL DEAL.

Re: Power steering pump!! HELP!!!

It's diffently not the belts they haven't been touched. When the car is off I turn the the steering no noise atall soon as I switch on it starts after a couple of mins when the oil gets warmer. Av turned engine over by hand no noise only when it's warm what's the best way to change the oil?

Re: Power steering pump!! HELP!!!

syphon all the old stuff out, replace with new, go lock to lock a few times, the fluid in the res will then want removing and replacing, do a few times or until the fluid looks new after you have been lock to lock, 1 litre of fluid should do it.

Re: Power steering pump!! HELP!!!

syphon it out with pipe, or buy a proper vacuum tool, I use one that runs off my compressor but not everyone has this option,
some small tube and a 2ltr pop bottle on the floor, put the tube in the res and "suck" lol, when you see it old fluid come over the slam panel and down the tube take ur mouth away and put the tube in the bottle (before u get a gob full of liquid lol),it will syphon enough off then top up with new and repeat until happy.
