turbo choice

im looking to replace the turbo on my car,it is an GC8 with EJ20G code,as i`m new to the scooby engine could you let me know what unit i need to look out for?
am i right in saying it`s a td04 on there at the mo?
will a td04L fit?
what other units can i fit without to much fuss?ie.will a sti unit fit directly?will a unit from 2001 model onwards fit?
my ultimate aim is to make 300bhp or there abouts, with a few other mods.
cheers

Re: turbo choice

it should have a TD05 16g as standard then which will get you just over 300 bhp if you get a FMIC and daughter board with a remap, a guy on another forum has 320 ish with a mines ecu on a wrx of the same year, decat and panel filter and top mount still.

Re: turbo choice

cheers bob,
it has a fmic already, pipercross airfilter, toyosport downpipe and blitz nurspec backbox,,the guy i brought it off said it has a piggyback ecu but i haven`t checked that far yet,,is the ecu located in passenger footwell area?
i`m replacing the turbo cos the impellor is making a clicking noise on lift off,,
one more thing i`ve noticed there is a tdo5 16g and 20g,whats the difference?

Re: turbo choice

20g had a bigger wheel and housing - capable of more power but it takes longer to spool

Re: turbo choice

ok thanks,,,have just put proper vacuum hose on as the guy b4 me had used screen washer hose, took her for a quick spin and she`s hitting 1.4/1.5 barthis seems quite high as the uk turbo i had b4 was around 0.9/1bar.
there no boost controller in sight,so i was wondering if this is the normal level for the td05

Re: turbo choice

Your boost gauge may not be accurate - very few are.
