no power after 4 k

i dont know much about them yet but I just picked up a 2000 impreza with a 2.5 that's loses power after 4-4500 rpm almost like it red lines @ 4k. anyone have any ideas b4 I fiddle around tomorrow I'm going to be cleaning the idle control valve and replacing plugs and wires

its in limp mode, get it to a specialist to get it looked at.

Basicly ecu has detected a fault and dropped it into limp mode to protect the engine, drive it as little as possible untill its looked at.

As far as why coul be any number of reasons, from bad batch of fuel, to a blown sensor etc etc
