backfiring on full power

Hi there iam new to the wrx scene

i have just bought a 1997 wrx for track days and when i give it full throttle it seems to back fire through the inlet which really upsets the car as there is a complete loss of power for a moment

the car has the following mods which i know about

decat and full exhaust system
large intercooler
and uprated filter and some sort of dump valve

The car also sometimes has the check engine light on but not all the time

it also seems to do it more in 4th and 5th

anyhelp would be much appreciatted

thanks

stuart

Re: backfiring on full power

if it's a bailey dump valve, chuck it away...the cell could well be 02,maf,knock sensor,plug/lead problem.. when it backfires n loses power it could be one of a few things, over boost, fuel cut are the most common..

Re: backfiring on full power

only thing to do it get it plugged in at a specialist and see what codes are flashed up from the ecu..only way to cure an over boost problem is a controller( electric one,not manual) or a replacement aftermarket ecu and remap..

Get it checked and report the codes back we may be able to help further,
as mentioned aftermaket dump valves and decats can upset the ecu.
