engine replacement

Hi, have just had a new motor under warranty fitted to STI-2008. Is there some way to find out if the replacement motor is new or a rebuild? Is their any markings on the motor to tell if the block is 2.0l or 2.5l? On the door plate the engine model was EJ257LG1LE? The old serial number was D392598 and the new number is E226557? thanks in advance. Oh Im in Australia.

Re: engine replacement

Does it not mention what work was done, parts fitted on the invoice for the work? If not then short of asking the guys (Subaru?) that did the work I can't think of any way you could tell it was new. Either way you would nee to run the engine in.

The engine number will tell you what has gone in there. Don't know about the hatch but on classics the engine number can be seen just under the intercooler. Take a peek and from there you will be able to ascertain what engine you have; eg EJ25 is a 2.5 and EJ20 will be a 2.0.

Re: engine replacement

Thanks for your reply. What I realy need to know is if their is some motor model markings on the block which can provide proof if the replacement motor is new from the factory or the Australian distributor of if they have rebuilt an older motor etc. I have the serial number but it cant tell me anything. Thanks

Re: engine replacement

Engine number won't really tell you much other than what model engine you have in the car. There won't be any way to prove externally wether the engine is new or a rebuild. The engine number may be a clue if they are different so would still be worth checking that.

What are the place that fitted the engine saying? As it is under warranty I am assuming it was Subaru that did the work. If they are saying new engine, do you have any reason to doubt their sincerity?
