1997 Impreza - Won't boost over 0.5b

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and new to the Subaru scene so go easy on me.

The title pretty much sums this up really, it's been working perfectly for the week that i've had it. But this evening i went for a quick drive, boosted perfectly up to 0.9 bar, then i let it idle for around 20 minutes as i was chatting away.

So i pulled away and drove nomally for a few minutes, but as i went to accellerate hard i noticed on the boost gauge it wouldn't boost over 0.5 bar, it would just hold it. Since i've owned the car though it's always boosted to 0.9.

I've tried to listen to boost leaks but nothing, i've checked the security of some of the boost piping and it all seems secure. I did do a search but couldn't find this problem

I run the Baileys dump valve (DV36 i think), but as stated, the car has worked perfectly up untill now.

Anyone have any idea's on why it randomly wont boost over 0.5 bar?

Thanks

Bailey valves are renowned for leaking. Subarus don't boost when not in gear and been driven so it's harder to find leaks when in the garage. Try a standard dump valve first as these are best anyway

Is this only this version though?

I ran a Baileys DV26 on my punto GT for 2 years and that didn't leak

I'll try source a cheap second hand one and piping.

But would it really break just being on idle?

I was gently revving the engine on idle and you can see the diaphram in the valve working as i could see it closes (or opening? - i saw it move lol )

OK, I'm not completely sure whats up. But the car is boosting properly up to 0.9 bar and i didn't do anything, it just... boosted lol. so i guess the bailyes isn't leaking then :S

But in lighter news though, the OEM recirc valve has came though ready to be swapped over

Yeah I had exactly the same thing happen to mine.
Boosted to .9 in the morning. Left work an it only boosted to .6 hmmmmm!
Next day it was fine.
Maybe it was it's time of the month lol
