Locking and Remote Start

Just got the car yesterday. It's a WRX 1992, does this year have central locking on the fob or is the fob just for the alarm? Even if I put the key in the door and lock it it doesn't lock all the doors, just the driver's door.

Also it has remote start and a turbo timer, BeTime 197 Comtec is the name of it, the turbo timer works but cant get the remote start to work, the light comes on when I push the botton on the control but nothing happens, the bloke I bought it off said I have to program it in. Does anyone know how to? Or have any tips/guides?

Thanks

Re: Locking and Remote Start

I think it should have central locking mate and the fob should unlock everything. Might need to hand it over to a specialist, ideally the person that fitted the system

I wouldn't bother with the remote start. Sounds like a gimic that you don't really need and your insurance would mostly likely frown upon it.

Re: Locking and Remote Start

Any idea what alarm system it is and is it arming when you press the fob but not locking all the doors? Not sure but I think only the models after 1999 came with remote central locking unless it's an aftermarket alarm

Re: Locking and Remote Start

I'm going to guess its standard factory alarm. Nothing happens when I push the buttons...

Re: Locking and Remote Start

if it has central locking, will be 9/10 the central locking relay,as the drivers door is the master,or it may just be fuse/s
ide check the central locking relay first ,if u can locate it
but unsure if pre 99 had full central locking

Re: Locking and Remote Start

the 1995 turbo 2000 (uk) and 1995 WRX (jap) that I have both had motors fitted with the alarms to take care of central locking, my guess would be it's not standard ...

see if you can get any numbers or identifying information from inside the alarm fob ... where you replace the battery, don't go taking the thing apart completely !!

by program it in, he means the alarm has several functions, such as the ability to open the boot, turn on lights, close windows etc ... chances are if it doesn't work it was never wired to work, and finding out the wires after the fact will be a nightmare, even for the guy who done it ... they are almost always all black wires coming from an alarms unit ... it just doesn't seem likely you'd pay the extra to have it wired upon fitting and then disable it after ...

mixing a turbo timer and remote start just seems a bad idea ... you only really need one of them ...

Re: Locking and Remote Start

mines a '92 wrx and my previous '93 wrx both have central locking, fitted as standard, but your alarm system will be an after market one. as above, check fuses and relays first. if you still have no joy look in the paper work you got with the car, you should have a cat1 certificate in there for insurance purposes, this will have all the details of the alarm/immob fitted to your car, you can then research a bit more into it, even contact the firm that fitted it!

Re: Locking and Remote Start

does the keyfob lock the drivers door?
and also, when u fit turbo timers,in order for the alarm to activate with engine runing u have to cut a wire under your glove box,for the ultra sonics,so they dont go off,and your timer activates, after 1min/2min
but sounds to me,its through your alarm thats the fault, but all doors have to have central locking mechanism still, but the drivers is the master,if wired through alarm, all it is is 2 wires, one to lock and one to open, but most thatcham alarms as some one said up there, come with all black wires,so its hard to tell, find your central locking relay and go from there.
usually engine starts also, are an added extra,
if it dosent lock with the fob, standard subaru alarms are sigma, doors lock with them,if they dont, can be a few things ,alarm/relay/or wires all over place, common fault is the connectors,ie,those stuiped scotch clips,
but start with relays

to program your remote for your alarm,u shud have a digital pad, usually in glove box, with numbers on it,,u shud of got a peice of paper with the master number on it,so u can chance items-if not try this-*17856*91*1#as u have one keyfob, before u do this ,start car, then switch off, then try it,your alarm shud beep, then it shud work ,(keyfob)if not,its somet else wrong

Re: Locking and Remote Start

Oh got the fob working, doesn't lock it but just sets the alarm... Still not luck on the central locking, though haven't looked at the relay or fuses. Where would the relay be located?
