Re: gx impreza conversion to a wrx sleeper

All the parts will swap straight over with no problems fella,
The downside is you are then driving a heavily modded GX so the insurance will be twice that of a actual wrx,
Hope that more help to you,
welcome to the site BTW.

Re: gx impreza conversion to a wrx sleeper

find a crashed one and get swapping is by far your best option, one rolled would be best due to it being shell smage causing it to be writen off

Re: gx impreza conversion to a wrx sleeper

Morning fella, well if you're going to do the conversion then I would say that you would need to fit the rear discs, braided hoses and then check the servo has enough force to operate the discs. What have you got up front, single pot or 2 pot ? If money really is no object then put some cash aside for a 6 pot conversion.
Go for ARB's, strut brace and poly bushes to tighten everything up under the chassis and just see how it feels when you make each modification, you'll get to a point where you are happy with the set-up and you won't want to do any more.
If you want it to be a sleeper then keep the standard look but replace the bonnet, wings, boot with carbon fibre. You can even get a carbon fibre roof skin, which has the added benefot of lowering the centre of gravity !!
Remove any unneccesary weight, i.e. air con, which weighs about 15kgs too.
It's a massive job you're going to undertake but it can be done, personally I'd buy a WRX and alter the body to look like a GX.
Good luck mate.

Re: gx impreza conversion to a wrx sleeper

The work can be done in a weekend, its the insurance side that will have your pants down,
Ive never known a master cylinder to work the brake discs either matt, u need to slow down and think what your typing lol lol

It isnt that much work as I have this project in mind with a fiend of mine who has asked me to do it,
The insurance is the killer as there is plenty of trashed cars to use as donors,
The only part that was worrying me was the rear ARB as at first I couldnt find the mounting points for it(GX has No rear ARB)
but they are there under the muck and 2 little stickers/plug things,

its a 1 for 1 swap on the main parts, just a case of taking your time and replacing the loom etc.

Just read it again and seen what I wrote , Ahh well I'm sure he'll know what I mean

I'd still be tempted to start with a Rex and work back rather than undertake a project like this, but like he said earlier....It's the challenge.

Just look at the shed I'm rebuilding in my photos, I'm sure it's not worth it in the long run but I'm enjoying it and it'll be great when it's finished.
I've got to weld some plates under it now because I found some holes underneath where the previous owners were using the wrong jacking points . There's also a nasty water trap at the bottom of the front wings, under the skirt that rots through the wing and sill.

Matt we have done some mental conversions over the years so this is a doddle,
Id rather he be asking about a 3ltr leggy lump being dropped in,
now thats a proper Job !
