ECU But no ignition key

Hi im new to this forum and hope someone may be able to help me. Im building a one off rally car to add to my current cars, it is running impreza running gear. I need to start the engine i am using for a dummy build. Here is my problem. I have a 99 impreza turbo engine in the car with impreza loom from the same donor car as the engine, standard ecu from same car all plugged in and ready to go. But heres the problem. The donor car i bought(all legit before anyone gets nervous about answering) was bought from Co part salvage auction but had no keys. Is it possible to power the ecu/starter circuit etc without the key. Eventually the car will be running a newer engine and motec ecu so tis wont be a problem, but need to run it now using the current engine.
Im asking this because i assume the ecu needs to read a chip in the key, is this correct?
Any one help??
Thanks
Richard

Re: ECU But no ignition key

either need to get a different ecu and matching key, or get the codes reset.

how come you need to start it?

Re: ECU But no ignition key

your options are either do away with the immobiliser completely(any sparks should be able to sort that) or buy a ecu from flea bay thats got the transponder.

edited : if u have the paperwork for the old car you may get a key from Subaru

Or maybe someone could lend you one if they had one lying around?

Re: ECU But no ignition key

My Micra is only 3 years old, yet suddenly one morning 2 weeks ago it wouldn't start. It started later in the day. Then one morning the intelligent key didn't work, I couldn't get in the car. I got in using manual key but again car didn't start. Just a click, no turn over. Again it was Ok later in day. Next day, the same. Local garage couldn't fix it. I took it to main dealer. They fixed it. Something to do with the communication between electronics and immobiliser? Cost 90. Two days later, same problem. Garage said whole new ECU now needed, by doing previous repair they were trying to keep cost down by only replacing small part but whole ECU needed replacing. Cost 370. Another mechanic then told me there was a recall on some Micras - a faulty ignition. My Micra is 1.2 SE, April 2003.
