Hi chris, I am sure a multi changer was an option available from subaru, so a plug must be tucked away somewhere in there.

As for where to get a lead? Any good car audio place I guess?

The standard unit will take a multichanger

You will need a Kenwood multichanger though as that is the make of the head unit

With the correct make changer it is plug and go

next question

how do i get the head unit out....are there special tools needed.....not had a good look yet.
i am keeping the standard head unit in as i dont want to spoil the look of the dash.but it still needs to come out to connect the cable.

As it's an MY01 on it will have DIN fitting. You made need a converter cable which you should be able to pick up at any ice/auto store. Actual fitting is easy you will need to remove the face panel around the stereo apature to do this open the cup holder and undo the two screws. Then remove the cup holder, should just pull out. Once this is out you need to pull off the stereo appeture suround. Only use your hands so as not to damage the surrounding dash. The surround is attached by four push fitting starting at the corner where you removed the cup holder pull the surround forward and then work your way round until all for fittings are released. once this is done you need to pull off the air con sensor hose (near bottom) and disconnect the 2 electrical connectors for the controls (heating/air con). Once done you can remove the facia. You will then see the stereo housing unit (double din) This is held in with 6 screws. Undo the six screws and remove. You should also see the wiring harness for the stereo. This is where you may or may not hneed the extra cable ??. Fir the stereo in the housing (you will need to check position for fitting surround back etc) Connect the electrics, refit housing, refit electrics to facia and hose to facia, refit facia, refit cup holder (watch for plastic clip on underside when pushing cup holder back in).... JOB DONE

Subaru sell a tray (cubby hole unit) if fitting a single din unit, this can be fitted above or below the single din head unit........
