AdvICE needed
Hi all you ICE experts, some advICE needed from you all.
I have just ordered a CD/MD audio unit for my 2003 STi. It is a Kenwood DPX - 05 MD. I have bought it mail order as it is MUCH cheaper that way - equivalent of £140. It is one of the Dual size component models (sorry couldn't post a pic but plenty of pics on internet) So, how difficult will it be to fit myself. My scoob was supplied without ICE but I have checked and all the doors have speakers. Can I assume that all the other wiring will be in place in the dash i.e. power supply etc. If not, how difficult will it be to fit this stuff or is it better to have this done by the experts :?: Any advICE would be appreciated, would like to fit myself if not too difficult. Cheers all. |

Cool
As it's an MY04 it will have DIN fitting. You made need a converter cable which you should be able to pick up at any ice/auto store. Actual fitting is easy you will need to remove the face panel around the stereo apature to do this open the cup holder and undo the two screws. Then remove the cup holder, should just pull out. Once this is out you need to pull off the stereo appeture suround. Only use your hands so as not to damage the surrounding dash. The surround is attached by four push fitting starting at the corner where you removed the cup holder pull the surround forward and then work your way round until all for fittings are released. once this is done you need to pull off the air con sensor hose (near bottom) and disconnect the 2 electrical connectors for the controls (heating/air con). Once done you can remove the facia. You will then see the stereo housing unit (double din) This is held in with 6 screws. Undo the six screws and remove. You should also see the wiring harness for the stereo. This is where you may or may not hneed the extra cable ??. Fir the stereo in the housing (you will need to check position for fitting surround back etc) Connect the electrics, refit housing, refit electrics to facia and hose to facia, refit facia, refit cup holder (watch for plastic clip on underside when pushing cup holder back in).... JOB DONE ![]() ![]() |

Cool while you have the facia off check that the stereo fits the facia, might save some swearing later. My single din is set back as it would not fit the appeture, looks OK though as it is a Kenwood mask, just could not use the surround that came with the stereo(you know the letter box shaped bit)...........
As you do it, all will become clear and is fairly easy... Pulling the facia off is the tricky bit, gently does it.... Have fun........ Off to bed now......... ![]() |

Gareth, the bacon here is not quite as good as the UK version
but is very nice in a different sort of way. I think the eggs here are nicer, must be something to do with what they feed the chickens. ![]() The only thing that I really miss is baked beans, you can get a version of them here but they are £1.20 for a tiny can    Might be easier/cheaper when in Tokyo but we are well north of there. Will have a few cans in my luggage when I come back here from my next business trip to England. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
