Car security

Time to start thinking about alarm etc before I bring car to the UK so I can get the thing insured. At the moment it has no security whatsoever, and i mean nothing but the door locks it left the factory with.

What i need to know is, what Alarm, immobiliser and tracker (heard they're required but sure any crook worth his salt will have it immobilised pretty quick) people recommend. I don't need the car to be the automotive equivalent of Fort Knox, just secure enough to deter the majority of idiots that might fancy nicking it and enough to keep insurance premiums down, as I'm sure any determined thief who knows what he is doing will have it away whatever I do.

not sure on which is the best alarm to go for mate but on the subject of trackers, there's three spec's of tracker that you can go for. retrieve, monitor and horizon.

tracker retrieve is the entry level and gives a basic service in that you have to notify tracker that your car has been stolen before it can be activated.

tracker monitor does exactly what it says on the tin. it provides the same basic service as the retrieve but tracker will also monitor the vehicle and contact you in the event of it being moved without your consent and then inform the police.

horizon is the all singing and dancing model. it does everything that the two above do but it has the added feature of gps positioning so the police can locate the vehicle straight away. only prob is its the most expensive too.

the good thing about the trackers is that they are hidden within the structure of the car so the thief will have to physically strip the car to its shell to find it. only the garage that fitted the unit and tracker know the location of the unit. they also have their own battery backup so disconnecting the batery is useless too.

not sure about the costs because its been a while since i dealt with em but i know theres three subscription methods, monthly, annually and one off (although this only applies to the owner at that time, any susbequent owners will have to renew the subscription).

hope this helps mate
