I think the problem would be if it werent locked though im not 100% sure they are, say you werent happy with the map, ya took it to another mapper/ with ecutek software they mapped it ....soon after the engine blows youre not happy so get another independent opinion on how the cars been mapped an it turns out its had a poor map which now implicates the mapper as being the main culprit of the blown engine, whats to stop the owner going bk to the first mapper and blaming him/tarnishing his reputation as opposed to the 2nd guy...How could it be proved either way??

Is the ecu not like a mini pc logging details like faults and times, maybe it logs when it was last mapped ??????

If thats the case why dont(or im led to believe they dont)remaps show up when connected to subaru`s own diagnostics-agree about fault timings etc but dont "think" a remap would be recorded as such.Though i suppose it must show up(though not sure of a date actually mapped) with ecutek software connected.

the locking depends on what system they use, if a company is an authorised ecutech dealer then they can gain access even to a locked ecu.

the thread i think you mean dave is the one that kicked off about autronics and locking, and the short version was that all companies lock autronics maps, they wont give you a code down the phone cos its the code to there autronics mapping software meaning if you had it you could map any autronics system. they will however unlock it by request (or at least i've not heard of any that wont)
