Replace ECU for remapped one

My mate Dan has a 't' reg classic scooby 4 door and has seen an ECU for 80 thats been remapped and is thinking he can simply add this to his car for great power gains, I warned him off as it won't be mapped to suit his car and could cause damage, right or wrong ???, as it is cheap is it worth getting then getting it onto a dyno for a cheaper remap i.e. just the dyno time cost, don't need to pay for the licence ??????

you're right mate, he's better off having the existing ecu mapped rather than buying a 2nd hand mapped ecu. as you said, the one he's thinking about buying wont be mapped to his car so it could end up causing problems that would cost more to put right than what a remap would on his own.

yep as said very bad idea.

mate had my old one off me, same model and year of car and same mods and even though on mine it ran rich, on his it ran dangerously lean
