warm engine won't start sometimes

Hi all,

Please advice on the problem (impreza'95 1.8):

cold engine starts surely, no problem.
but when warm and turned off for some 5-20 min., sometimes won't start.

When i turn on ignition, indications seems ok, fuel pump can be heard, starter is working, only abnormaly some relay can be heard periodically clicking while i hold on starter...

There is some motorola immobilizer, but when it's active, starter do not work as well as other circuits..

Hi KaraK,

How to check? ECU showed no faults at Subaru service.

It looks like temporary contact problem, but it only appears after driving with normal engine temperature, never when cold. Possibly sensor or some ground point?

It does sound like the crank position sensor, you could try unplugging and plugging back in and see if that helps.

hi, i have the same problem with my renault clio about 2 weeks ago and i replaced the cold start sensor and it fixed mine. i found that my sensor was broken and was making the ecu think my engine was cold and hence putting the automatic choke on.

hope this helps you in some way

matt
