A Strange electrical phenominan

Not sure if this is standard practice, but whenever I put the indicators on, the lights on the dash (especially the little digital clock) dim slightly in rhythm with the flashers.

Is this normal?!! Its almost like its got a bad earth, but nothing seems to be affected by it. Wondered if anyone else has seen this sort of electrical behaviour!

Does sound like a bad earth, Check your earths from the battery.

You can get an earthing kit that does improve the eletrical system to the point that you get better performance, as the electrical connectivity to the ECU and all its components is improved.

HKS and Spoon do them

I'll have a look into that. I'll probably have a look this weekend to see if I can clean up the original earths and see if that helps

cheers for the reply

Do the dash lights dim when other similar loads are turned on, i.e. when you put your foot on the brake? if not then it could just be the earth for the instrument cluster, if they do still dim then it's a main earth problem on the car. How much dimmer do the clocks go? most cars will dim slightly as the alternator takes a moment to react to higher current draw.
