Cooling fan

Hi I wonder if anyone can help. I have an R reg Impreza Turbo. The cooling fan runs continuosly, & the engine management light is on. I have tried to disconect the plug from the sensor, I think it was the right one, next to the temp sender?. But even with this disconnected the fan still runs. Hope someone can help I hope to go on holiday Friday. Cheers Reg
