new car :) one key :/

hi there just got myself a 2003 sti very happy with the car but it has only come with one key.

now im not one for loosing keys but would like to get a spare sorted.

spoke to the local dealer and they want around 180 to sort two new keys

is there any way i could get hold of a second hand item then get it recoded to the one i have already ?

also while looking into this and fiddling about with the car. the car arms itself alarm wise when you lock it off the button. but if you open it up with the key the alarm will go off when you open the door.

so if your out and about and the battery in your key fob goes dead your F##kd i
take it

You can get spare keyfobs I got a toad off fleabay for a quid and programmed it myself as for keys u can get them cut in any key shop but they can't programme it so if u wana go cheap opt get two keys cut for a fiver take chip out of yur main key glue it on ignition barrel then any of yur keys will work.

Would think that doing this would void your insurance though!!!

On my bugeye, there is a sigma cat 1 alarm and immobiliser, but there is still another 'chip' in the key that forms part of the immobiliser. If the key AND sigma fob is not present, then the car wont start, which is why I think it would invalidate the insurance. Although taking the key apart would have saved the 200 it has just cost me at the Stealers to buy a 2nd key and fob and have them programmed!!

I have just gone through the same process, but could not get it to work. Some keys have the immobiliser chip in them, some use the sigma fob, some (like mine) use both!!! Basically, it took around 5 round trips (20 miles) to the stealers and I had to leave it there on most occasions. The PIN for the sigma alarm will only (maybe!!) do the fob and not the key, so you may still need to go to Subaru. I also got what I thought was an identical key off Ebay, but Subaru couldnt reprogram it and I ended up buying one from them. Good Luck!!!!!!

The thing is most Subaru thefts are down to them nicking your keys

Re: new car :) one key :/

well fingers crossed
there is a way to deactivate the key fob when you lock the car so that you can only turn off the alarm and imob with the pin code on the next entry.
so even if they get in the house and nick the keys they aint driving away
(unless they put a gun to my head and insist on knowing the code

Programming Remote Keys to the System:
Remote keys can be added or removed to/from the system following the sequence below:
i) Type in to the keypad **
ii) Type in to the keypad the “existing PIN code” then *
iii) Type in to the keypad 91 * “ the number of keys to be used” #
iv) Press the first remote key button until bleep sounds, release and press next key. Continue until all
keys have been taught to the system. Note the maximum number of keys is 4 and all keys required
to operate the system must be taught during this operation - any key not included will no longer
operate the system.

as above. job job'd
