Well mate, depends really on what you want to spend, personally, I'd love to get these bits:

DFI Ultra-D Nforce 4 board
AMD X2 4400+ CPU (Dual core, 2.2Ghz 1Mb cache - each core...)
2Gb OC Z Platinium memory
Any of the Creative sound blaster cards would be fine or personally the on board one is just as good..
HIS X1900XT-X 512Mbs PCI-Express graphics - top of the range and top dog in my opinion....

Now that little lot will cost a fair few quid, so as I said, its up to you on what you want to spend.
Judging by your current spec's, perhaps:

Nforce 4 Ultra chipset (if no overclocking, they are all much of a much ness)
AMD X2 3800+ (2.0Ghz 512K cache per core) or a 3700+ San Diegeo core (single core CPU)
1Gb of ram (whatever model really, lower the timings, the better tho... that's the cas 2 2-2-5 or whatever numbers....)
7900GT graphics or a X1800 XT or if you want to go the extra, the X1900 XT

Its really dependant on the cash you want to spend mate.... Are you planning on using any of your current hardware at all?

As I said above, its pretty much the same setup, but with the Crucial ram you couldnt use it as its DDR2 and the board you've spec'd for is only DDR1... Go with OC Z or Giel or Corsair. Any of those, value or otherwise would be great for your needs.

Not bad for a guess was it

Well if you want DDR2 mate, then you need the new AMD socket that is out called the AM2 I believe.. That supports DDR2 but the performance difference isnt all that much and its more expensive because its new technology...
You'd also need to change the motherboard as that is all so, DDR1

Personally, I'd stick with the older tech, as its cheaper and it might be wise to let the AM2 socket take off and 'settle'..

The 7900GT's arent bad, but I would consider trying for a X1900XT or a cheaper 7900GTX which is the top Nvidia line at the moment....
Down to prices and what you want to pay out mate really...

I know the feeling mate... If I was able to put back £1000 for the main hardware, I reckon you'd have an awesome setup Just google the comparison charts when it comes to the graphics cards.

As long as you have a decent CPU (X2 3800+ or 3700+ San Diego) you'll be fine... The graphics are more so dependant on the graphics card rather than the CPU....

think my current set up needs more ram, might just buy a couple of 1gb chips (current board supports 400mhz) so could just switch it out as and when

If you want good ram mate, then I'd recommend this stuff, because I'm putting it in my next system and I've had the 1Gb kits before... awesome stuff mate
