Which engine fits my '99 sedan turbo

Hey guys.

I have.. or should i say I had a nice blue 4 door high rear wing 1999 impreza, with nice 160hp engine that made me feel like sitting in a small plane at times.

Talking about an impreza breaking down..
I am a slow driver. I just drive to office and back every day, approx. 5 miles daily. When I bought my impreza, it had 52000miles. It had all services done on it properly, or thats what the local dealer said. I had 65000 miles on my impreza, when it started to act strange.

First it seemed like it could not get power properly from turbo. It accelerated to 3000rpm just fine. After that the acceleration was more like short boosts followed by total power fadeout.

I took it to service. After 2 days these people at service could not find any problems. They had done all computer diagnostics they had. Still it was clear something is amiss.

2 weeks after being at service I was on a highway going for one week vacation. It was about midnight, when at 65mph all warning lights turned on and strange noises came from engine. I stopped the car.

The trailer took my car back to service where they took the engine apart. What they found, was that the engine was partially destroyed from within!!!
They said they cannot repair it and suggested I have to put another engine on it.
Now I am on search of the engine for my car, because they wanted to order new one from Japan for astronomical 2000.
I know used engines go for as low as 450 to 900 since more Imprezas have been wasted in Estonia than there are going around on the roads today.

The problem is I don't know which 1994cc impreza engines I can use on mine.
Is it just 1999 year engine or can I use also engine from 1997 or 2001?
Or maybe I can use Impreza GL engines as well?
I would be most happy, if someone could advice me on which engines do fit for 1999 Impreza GT.

I need proved technical data, to not to waste money on wrong engine.

Thanks,
Jaanus
PS. They say the turbo loader is still intact.
